Social Studies
Instilling knowledge about the past while learning about contemporary events helps students to understand the world we live in. Historical facts, cultural understanding, critical thinking and writing are all components of world history and US history. The Common Core State Standards enables students to analyze primary sources, contextualize historical events, and collaborate with others to build a sense of citizenship necessary to improve our society. The California State standard curriculum enables students to internalize and analyze the democratic process, consider our societal values, our national identity and constitutional heritage as well as the sequence and importance of our developing history. The Social Studies department is committed to helping our students become responsible citizens.
